Jammin' Music student Luke Posner might be only 10 years old, but he's already a multi-instrumentalist! Luke began studying piano at Jammin' Music 3 years ago, and seven months ago added weekly guitar lessons. Add to that the trumpet that this 5th grader plays in his school band at Alice M. Birney Elementary, and that's one musical kid! "Luke is a fine student and a sensitive pianist," says his piano instructor, Linus Lau. "He shows dedication to practicing rarely seen in a young man of his age."
Luke took some time out from practicing to answer a few questions about his rich musical life.
What songs do you enjoy playing on the piano?
Blue Danube, Ode to Joy, Greensleeves, Anchors Away, When the Saints Go Marching In, and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, to name a few. And my mom and I like playing the duet, Heart and Soul.
Is learning to play piano and guitar difficult?
Yes, but I enjoy the challenge. Piano comes more natural for me. I have played the piano in front of an audience at the Melodrama Theater down at Shoreline Village a few times. The professional piano player at the theater, Rick Illes, has been very supportive of my playing.
What songs are you playing on the trumpet at school?
I can play "When the Saints go Marching In." I have learned to play the same song on the piano and guitar too.
What is your favorite type of music?
My favorite music is Alternative and Classical. My favorite bands are Green Day and Queen.
What do you enjoy about your lessons at Jammin' Music & Arts?
I enjoy taking lessons at Jammin' Music because my instructors Linus (piano) and Kahlid (guitar) are both really cool. I can't wait for my younger brother Owen to start taking lessons. One day we could have our own band.
